The Story So Far…

Totally Locally Malton and Norton kicked off in June 2013 with a fantastic Fiver Fest. We were overwhelmed when a whopping 67 shops and businesses asked to take part. Special treats on offer for just a fiver ranged from coffee and cake to kids pyjamas to a shampoo and set.

DidYouKnowIn August, Did You Know posters started popping up all over the place, spreading the word about things going on behind the scenes in our independent shops and businesses. We learnt about large puddings, flower selections, saddle repairs, nail tips, home-made cakes, local timber, home deliveries, re-upholstering, lash extensions and glass loans. Many businesses were keen to let us know about how they their fellow independents by sourcing ingredients and materials from the area.

During the October half-term 71 shops took part in the fun family treasure hunt. An ‘Odd Man Out’ was hidden in each shop window for shoppers to find. The winners were treated to a fabulous prize, kindly donated by The Yard and The Palace Cinema.

In December 2013, shoppers who did their Christmas shopping on a Sunday in Malton and Norton collected tokens and were entered into the Festive Fiver special prize draw. The prize worth an amazing £800 included a stay in the lovely Talbot Hotel.

In Summer 2014, we caught the sporting fever with the Tour de France working it’s way through Yorkshire, not to mention the World Cup and of course our very own Malton Festival of Cycling. We celebrated with a month long Fiver Fest and introduced the world to our Totally Locally Bike!
